About

The Issue

With success comes attention. That attention and First Things First’ funding stream – caught the eye of the Arizona Legislature early this year. Having spent the state deeply into debt, lawmakers looking for an easy way out have focused on First Things First’s tobacco tax money. Their plan? End what the voters created in 2006, seize more than $300 million in revenue and use that money not as local council see fit but as they see fit.

Haven’t our children paid enough already? In just the past year, Arizona has cut more than $2 billion from state government, much of it taken from education and health care programs our youngest Arizonans rely on daily. Proposition 100 protected some core services for kids, but education and basic health care needs are still at risk. Voting NO on Prop 302 will keep the Legislature at bay and keep in place the services children need to begin school ready for success.
